Ancajas admits losing confidence after defeat to Inoue

Jerwin Ancajas (34-4-2, 23 KOs) admitted that he lost his confidence after absorbing a stoppage defeat against Takuma Inoue in Japan (19-1, 5 KOs).

The Filipino fighter came up short in claiming the world title after he went down with two solid body shots against Inoue.

Ancajas, who failed to get up in the ninth round, said he did not protect his body, which caused him the match.

“I was so focused on hitting the body, but it was me who got hit in the body,” Ancajas said in Filipino.

Ancajas, known as a notorious body puncher, said it was his first time succumbing to body shots.

“That was the first time in my career, even in sparring, that I ever went down from a body shot,” he confessed. “The timing was right in the middle because I was open with my wild punches. 

“After it hit, I lost air, and it was like my body broke down.”

The 32-year-old said that he lost his “skills in the ring” despite his long preparation for the WBA bantamweight title.

“It got me thinking, I lost my skills in the ring, but it is all there when I spar. It is like I get dumb inside the ring. I do not know what is happening,” he said.

Ancajas said his confidence and morale is at an all-time low, and he refuses to talk about his next move.

Instead, he will leave everything to MP Promotions boss and long-time advisor Sean Gibbons.

“I only follow what sir Sean [Gibbons] and my coach plan for me,” said Ancajas. “I have very low morale right now and I lost my confidence. It is what it is. I will leave it to the Lord what is next for my career.”
