SULAIMAN BACKS JOSHUA BUT WBC HAS LIMITATIONS
While Sulaiman favors Joshua (28-3, 25 KOs) to challenge the Fury-Usyk winner, the WBC is aware of possible rematch clauses between the two world champions.
“The WBC was presented with a sanction request to fight for the undisputed,” Sulaiman told Sky Sports. “The WBC accepted that sanctioning, and we accepted the rematch they requested.”
“But if it’s not anything to do with contractual or promotion, we would absolutely accept the winner (of Fury vs Usyk) to fight Joshua,” he added.
SAUDI ORGANIZERS KEY TO ACCOMMODATE JOSHUA NEXT
However, organizers in Saudi Arabia, which will host the Fury vs Usyk fight on May 18, will need to insert Joshua between the winner’s schedule to line him up for the undisputed title bout.
It remains uncertain if whoever loses between Fury (34-0-1,24 KOs) or Usyk (21-0, 14 KOs) will step aside for Joshua to challenge the winner of their fight.
Between the two, observers felt Fury would be more difficult to convince to give way to Joshua should he lose to Usyk.
