Sebastian Fundora ordered to fight Crawford-Madrimov winner

FUNDORA ORDERED BY WBO TO FIGHT CRAWFORD-MADRIMOV WINNER

Fundora (21-1-1, 13 KOs) was ordered by the WBO to face the Crawford-Madrimov winner in the first defense of his super welterweight title.

The World Boxing Association (WBA) belt and the interim WBO 154-pound title are at stake as Crawford (40-0, 31 KOs) and Madrimov (10-0-1, 7 KOs) fight on August 3.

Madrimov currently holds the WBA belt.

Fundora beat Tim Tszyu (24-1, 17 KOs) by a split decision on March 30 to claim the WBO and WBC light middleweight titles.

The 26-year-old American managed to win the fight despite only having a 12-day notice to face Tszyu.

WBO SANCTIONS CRAWFORD-MADRIMOV FIGHT DUE TO FUNDORA INJURIES

The WBO agreed to sanction the Crawford-Madrimov fight as Fundora heals his injuries from the Tszyu bout.

Fundora sustained a broken nose after his latest bout, making him unavailable until September.

The WBO belt will be declared vacant should Fundora fail to fight the Crawford-Madrimov winner by December 31.

“Failure to comply with this condition will result in the WBO Jr Middleweight Championship being declared vacant “Ipso Facto,” the WBO said.

LONGER WAIT FOR TSZYU DUE TO WBO ORDER ON FUNDORA

The WBO order on Fundora will lead to a longer wait for Tszyu.

A rematch clause was included when Tszyu and Fundora agreed to fight in March.

The 29-year-old Australian’s camp believes their fighter doesn’t need a longer period to get a Fundora rematch.

However, the WBO order might force Tszyu to wait until early- or mid-2025.

Without another crack at the title, it would be tough for Tszyu to line up for big payday fights.
