TIM TSZYU TO FACE ORTIZ AS PART OF CRAWFORD-MADRIMOV UNDERCARD

Tszyu (24-1, 17 KOs) will face Ortiz (20-0, 20 KOs) as part of the Crawford-Madrimov undercard in Los Angeles on August 3.

The 29-year-old Australian begins his comeback after he absorbed a split decision loss against Sebastian Fundora (21-1, 13 KOs) on March 30.

Tszyu sustained a gash on his hairline in the second round following an accidental elbow.

This affected Tazyu’s vision throughout the Fundora bout.

The Isaac Cruz-Jose Valenzuela junior welterweight title bout and the Andy Ruiz-Jarrell Miller heavyweight matchup are on the undercard.

ORTIZ MUST BEAT DULORME FIRST BEFORE FIGHTING TSZYU

Ortiz must first beat Thomas Dulorme in a Saturday fight for the Tszyu-Ortiz bout to become possible.

The 26-year-old Texas native is coming off a first-round technical knockout win over Fredrick Lawson in January.

That was Ortiz’s debut in the 154-pound division and his first fight in 17 months.

Ortiz withdrew from three fights due to issues related to rhabdomyolysis.

MUST-WIN FIGHT FOR TSZYU TO GET TITLE FIGHTS, FUNDORA REMATCH

Tszyu, ESPN’s No.2 junior middleweight, is in a must-win fight against Ortiz, the No.7-ranked fighter.

A loss to Ortiz, who has a 100% accurate knockout rate in all his fights, would hurt Tszyu’s career.

The Australian would find difficulty landing major title fights in the US and even a possible rematch against Fundora.

Tszyu and Fundora had a rematch clause before their first bout.

However, Fundora has been ordered by the World Boxing Organization to face the Crawford-Madrimov winner.

The WBO allowed to sanction of the Crawford-Madrimov fight as Fundora recovers from his injuries from the Tszyu bout.
