BOXING 101: Boxing Training Equipment

Boxing is not just about gloves, mouth guards, and trunks, but also you need a dedicated place to train and hone your skills.

Fortunately, in every big town or city, there is a boxing gym that has the tools you need, including a full-sized ring that you only see on television.

So apart from the squared circle, what are the gear that you also need? We’ll list it down for you.

Bells

The bells in boxing are not just found in an ordinary gym, but also in the world’s top arenas during championship fight nights. Ringing it signals the beginning or the end of a round in a sparring session.

Punching bags

They are in different shapes and sizes, but these are the most common things you see in the gym apart from the ring. Such bags have different purposes for every boxer to use.

A heavy bag is a larger, cylindrical bag, usually suspended by chains or ropes and used for practicing powerful body punches.

A speed bag is smaller than a heavy bag and is more known to be put with a wooden board above it, but its main job is to improve stamina, hand speed, and reflexes.

The double-end bag is almost the same as the speed bag size-wise, but it is tied on both ends of the floor and ceiling. It has the same purpose as the speed bag, but it helps your accuracy and increases rhythm; also, it gives you simulations for the real thing.

Jump ropes

This timeless classic is the boxer’s favorite toy. Jumping, skipping, and hopping with these help them improve their footwork as well as getting creative with their reflexes.

The usual tandem of those is the body shields and a pair of focus mitts, with the latter being the more prominent gear as it helps you train with combinations. These will help you simulate the real action in the ring when you do not have your sparring partner.
