Crawford ‘doesn’t have options’ other than Canelo, says Algieri

Boxing expert Chris Algieri says the only fight Terence Crawford wants to happen is a matchup against fellow world champion Canelo Alvarez.

CRAWFORD NOT TAKING RISKS AGAINST OTHER FIGHTERS

Crawford’s wish to get a massive payday can only be possible if he gets a shot at Alvarez, Algieri said. The 36-year-old WBA, WBC and WBO welterweight champion doesn’t want to risk fighting younger fighters like Jaron “Boots” Ennis or Tim Tszyu, the fight analyst added.

“Does it seem like he’s chasing Canelo because that’s the only fight that he’s mentioned,” Algieri told Inside Boxing Live on Crawford’s preference. “Crawford is chasing, and Canelo is leading because Crawford doesn’t have options, and Canelo has too many options.”

“He (Canelo) can pick whoever he wants. He can pick the things that fans don’t want, and he doesn’t care,” the retired boxer added.

CRAWFORD, CANELO LEAVING PBC FOR DIFFERENT REASONS

Algieri is convinced Alvarez is leaving the Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) “because of the money.” However, Crawford doesn’t want to stay with PBC due to the “lack of fights, and he doesn’t have time,” the expert said.

“He (Crawford) needs the biggest money possible as soon as possible,” Algieri said. “Does this still leave open the door for a September Canelo-Crawford fight?”

“Who is viable (for Crawford) because the ones that we saw are viable, they’re not with Terence,” Algieri said, referring to Ennis or Tszyu.
