Dela Hoya refutes planned Alvarez-Munguia fight in May
Promoter Oscar De La Hoya insisted Canelo Alvarez’s plan to fight Jaime Munguia on May 4 is not gonna happen. At least not on that said date.
‘NO CHANCE’ MAY 4 FIGHT WOULD HAPPEN
The retired world champion is aware of Alvarez’s recent separation from Premier Boxing Champions (PBC), making it impossible to stage the May fight. Alvarez, de la Hoya said, should take less money to get a shot at Munguia.

“No chance. I don’t think so, I really don’t,” De la Hoya said on Ariel Helwani’s YouTube channel regarding the planned fight. “Canelo just left PBC. It can’t be May 4th.”
“Who’s willing to fork over that money? It’s pretty risky. Who’s going to pay that huge guarantee?” he added.
CANELO’S DEMANDS TOO HIGH
De la Hoya said a Canelo fight should generate one million pay-per-views to cover his guaranteed purse, which is risky. A reported $35-million guaranteed purse for the May 4 fight is just impossible, the promoter added.
“I don’t know if he (Alvarez) is talking to DAZN now,” De la Hoya said.
Alvarez was supposed to fight Jermall Charlo on May 4. However, Alvarez and PBC failed to strike a deal.
