Haney to defend WBC junior welterweight belt vs Garcia
The stage is set between Ryan Garcia (24-1-20) and Devin Haney (31-0-15) on April 20.
ESPN’s Mike Coppinger first reported the development.
Haney will defend his World Boxing Council (WBC) junior welterweight belt against Garcia.
The venue of the match has yet to be determined.
Garcia, 25, was determined to make the fight with Daney possible with the help of Golden Boy Promotion.
“I’ve got a great team,” Garcia said.
“I don’t mess around with trying to make the biggest fights happen. There’s a lot of things. It’s here, what does it matter?”
This will be Garcia’s first shot for an official world title belt.
Garcia suffered his first professional loss in April 2023 against Gervonta Davis due to a seventh-round stoppage.
He bounced back with an eight-round knockout of Oscar Duarte on December 2.
Meanwhile, the 25-year-old Haney claimed the junior from Regis Prograis welterweight by unanimous decision on December 9.
