Inoue, Ancajas all ready for world title match

The much-anticipated world title match is all set between Takuma Inoue (18-1) and Jerwin Ancajas (34-3-2) on February 24 at Kokugikan Arena in Tokyo, Japan.

Takuma, the younger brother of four-division champion Naoya Inoue, will defend his WBA bantamweight belt.

Despite having the championship advantage, the 28-year-old Inoue is still wary of Ancajas’ reputation as a fighter.

Inoue shared his mentality heading into his bout with the Filipino boxer.

“I’m in a challenger state of mind,” Inoue told BoxingScene.com.

“Ancajas has defended his title nine times when he was the IBF [115-pound] champion.”

Meanwhile, Ancajas’ trainer Joven Jimenez said that the 32-year-old aims to recapture a world title.

“Focus na focus na si Jerwin dahil pagsisikapan namin ulit na makapanalo ng world title,” he said.

Inoue and Ancajas were supposed to fight on November 15, but the Japanese sustained an injury.

The younger Inoue claimed the bantamweight after the elder Inoue vacated the title.

Ancajas, part of Manny Pacquiao’s MP Promotion stable, last fought in June of 2023, where he won via fifth-round TKO victory over Wilner Soto in Minnesota.

On the other hand, Inoue scored a unanimous victory over Liborio Solis in his bantamweight title defense last April 8.
