Pacquiao signs with Japanese fight promotion RIZIN

Manny Pacquiao, the eight-division boxing champion, inked a partnership with Japanese MMA organization RIZIN FIGHTING FEDERATION for appearances and a possible fight.

Pacquiao was present during Super Rizin, the event where rival Floyd Mayweather, Jr defeated MMA fighter and YouTuber Asakura Mikuru in an exhibition boxing match. Manny said a few words to the crowd before and after the main event.

With this deal, Pacquiao is expected to show up in RIZIN events. An exhibition bout is in the cards later this year with a still unnamed opponent.

What makes this development more exciting is the probability of him and Mayweather having their rematch down the line. Whether this would be tagged as an official pro boxing tussle or not, it would not matter to fans of both prestigious prizefighters as long as the two could face each on top of the ring once more.

“Money” won their encounter in 2015, which turned out to be his 48th professional career win. He retired with 50 wins and no defeats.

This is one better than the long standing undefeated 49-0-0 record of Rocky Marciano. He is the only heavyweight champ to finish his career undefeated.

Founded in 2015, RIZIN is currently the biggest MMA promotion in Japan. It took over the mantle of PRIDE Fighting Championships after the latter was folded in 2007.
