Manny’s opponent for exhibition fight in Saudi Arabia revealed
Manny Pacquiao might have retired from professional boxing, but he continues to be busy as ever. After finalizing his exhibition bout against DK Yoo in December, he is slated to have another fight, this time in Saudi Arabia in 2023.
Pacquiao is set to face undefeated boxer and former sparmate Jaber Zayani of France February next year in Riyadh. It will be a non-sanctioned eight-round skirmish using regular eight-ounce gloves.
The two combatants made things formal, signing the deal in Manny’s residence in Makati, Philippines.
Zayani boasts of an 18-0 win-loss record, 11 of his victories via knockout.
He once served as Pacquiao’s sparmate during the latter’s training against Keith Thurman in their faceoff in 2019. This was the former Philippine senator’s second to the last professional boxing match, which he won via split decision.
“I told him (Pacquiao) to prepare well because I am going to give him a real fight,” the 31-year-old Saint-Martin-d’Hères said. “I aim to create a buzz and become a household name. Sure, the organizers are calling this an exhibition but for me, it is a chance to exhibit my talent as a future world champion.”
