Thurman needs speed to beat Tim Tszyu: Judah

Speed is what Keith Thurman needs to topple a world champion like Tim Tszyu, according to retired boxer Zab Judah.

The 46-year-old Judah urged quick footwork from Thurman in facing the World Boxing Organization (WBO junior middleweight king. Tszyu and Thurman collide on March 30 in Las Vegas in a PPV event under Premier Boxing Champions.

“You’ve got to be s good clean boxer with power, and be able to come in there and walk him (Tszyu) down,” Judah told MillCity Boxing.

“If he (Thurman) comes in and starts fast, anything can happen. In the first three rounds, it’s 50-50,” he added.

Thurman may be a multiple world welterweight champion at 147 pounds but he’s too small under 154lbs, Judah admitted. The former International Boxing Federation and WBO junior welterweight king fears Tszyu can knock out Thurman easily.

Tszyu is not staking his title belt as the WBO did not sanction the fight. The son of Hall of Fame boxer Kostya Tszyu takes on Thurman under a 155-lb catchweight.

Judah also noted Thurman’s inactivity that could spell trouble against Tszyu. Thurman (30-1, 22 KOs), has not fought since beating Mario Barrios in February 2022.

Thurman’s lone loss came against retired eight-division world champion Manny Pacquiao in July 2019.
