‘IRON MIKE’ TO FIGHT AGAIN IN TEXAS
The 57-year-old former undisputed heavyweight champion will headline the main event of a card that will air on Netflix.
The fight, which will be held at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, will be his first in four years.
Tyson’s last ring appearance was an exhibition match against Roy Jones Jr on November 28, 2020.
If this will be tagged as a professional match, it will be Tyson’s first in 19 years. He lost to Kevin McBride on July 11, 2005.
“Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson is a once-in-a-lifetime dream matchup and I anticipate it will be the most-watched boxing event in modern boxing history,” said Nakisa Bidarian, co-founder of Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions, which struck a deal with Netflix on November 1.
TYSON CITES PAUL’S IMPROVEMENT AS BOXER
Tyson himself recognizes the development of Paul from a YouTuber to a professional boxer.
The 27-year-old Paul knocked out former NBA player Nate Robinson in the undercard of the Tyson-Jones exhibition card.
“(Paul) has grown significantly as a boxer over the years, so it will be a lot of fun to see what the will and ambition of a ‘kid’ can do with the experience and aptitude of a GOAT (greatest of all time),” Tyson said.
Aside from beating Robinson, Paul has also defeated ex-UFC stars Anderson Silva, Nate Diaz, and Tyron Woodley.
The Cleveland native is coming off consecutive KO wins over journeymen Andre August and Ryan Bourland.
