Munguia calls out Canelo Alvarez after TKO win
Jamie Munguia (43-0, 34 KOs) put up a must-see performance in his 12-round bout against John Ryder (32-7) to catch the attention of Canelo Alvarez.
TKO win over Ryder
Munguia, 27, floored Ryder, 35, three times – once in the second and fourth rounds, respectively, and twice in the ninth round.
Ryder’s corner waved the white flag to avoid further punishment in the ninth round, as Munguia earned a TKO victory.
With the win, Munguia now holds the WBC silver super middleweight title.
“I feel very happy because I worked hard for this,” he said during the post-game interview.
“I know that a lot of people didn’t trust me and that’s why I worked harder to prove them wrong.”
“I know that I have to work on my timing in the ring.”
“Last time I threw a lot of punches, but I wanted to control my output more in this fight.”
Munguia calls out Canelo
After commending Ryder for giving him a great match, Munguia gave hints on who he wanted to fight next.
“I’m motivated for the next fight, and it’s going to be better than this one, and it’s going to keep getting bigger,” he said.
“We want the best of the best in 168. We are going to be world champions.”
The man that Munguia was calling out was none other than Alvarez, his Mexican counterpart.

“It would be a great fight among Mexicans,” he said.
“And if Canelo gives us the chance, it will be an honor to be in the same ring as him.”
